Apparently it took people 1.5 hours to pass through to the departure lounge last Saturday afternoon and passengers had to be moved to the exterior of the building to make more room inside – were these people sheltered from the sun in some way and provided with updates for how long they would have to wait?

CIAA Confirms Emergency Landing of Cargo Plane

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) confirms that at 2:51 pm on Wednesday, June 3rd, a cargo plane, operated by Cayman Airways, Ltd., made an emergency landing at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman. All airport emergency services were put on standby and the aircraft landed without incident.

CIAA Explains Security Incident at Owen Roberts International Airport

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) can confirm that at approximately 5:30 am this morning, personnel from the Cayman Islands Fire Service reported to the staff of Air Traffic Control at Owen Roberts International Airport that a person was observed inside the perimeter heading towards the commercial apron. Air Traffic Control immediately notified Airport Security who responded to the scene. By this time the person had been stopped by members of the Fire Service and was then detained by Airport Security until the Royal Cayman Islands Police arrived and arrested the individual.

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) is reminding passengers flying out of Owen Roberts International Airport and the General Aviation Terminal (Grand Cayman) and Gerrard-Smith International Airport (Cayman Brac) that effective January 1, 2009, a new fee, called the "Passenger Facilities Charge" or "PFC" of CI$13.00 will be added to tickets purchased for all outward bound international passengers, excluding crew and children under two years of age.
