CIAA Advisory Regarding Nighttime Works Underway at Airport

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA), wishes to advise the public that there will be various work underway on the apron/runway area at Owen Roberts International Airport during November and December. more
The works will involve the creation of taxiway shoulders in order to comply with international standards. The activities are being carried out at night when flight operations end and all activities will cease at 5:00 am each day before the airport reopens.

CIAA & Emergency Responders to stage Airport Emergency Exercise

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) will be conducting an Airport Emergency Exercise, in accordance with international requirements, on Tuesday, 20th July. The Emergency Exercise, which has been dubbed, “Operation Heron”, will be staged at nighttime in the vicinity of Owen Roberts International Airport on Grand Cayman.

Earlier this week, the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) spearheaded an Emergency Response Exercise, which entailed the simulation of an aircraft accident at Gerrard-Smith International Airport (G-SIA) in Cayman Brac at 11:02 am on Monday, 7th June. CIAA comments on findings of The Miller Commission Report

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) wishes to comment on the findings of The Miller Commission Report (“The Report”), specific to the CIAA, which were recently made available to the public on the Government’s website.
The Report recommends that Owen Roberts International Airport could be privatized and in addition to whatever the Government would realize from the proceeds of the sale, it would save an additional CI$8.7 million per year that it now provides as an annual subsidy payment.

Electrical Fire Causes Airport Evacuation on Sunday Afternoon

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) confirms that shortly before 3:00 pm on Sunday, 7th March, the entire terminal at Owen Roberts International Airport on Grand Cayman was evacuated for approximately one hour when smoke was detected by airport security.
Although the exact location of the fire was not immediately known, passengers and airport personnel were requested to evacuate the terminal. CIAA Confirms Emergency Landing

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA), confirms that at 6:18 pm on Wednesday, November 25th, a commercial airline with approximately 133 passengers onboard made an emergency landing at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman. All airport emergency services were put on standby and the aircraft landed without incident. The aircraft, operated by Spirit Airlines, was en route to Ft. Lauderdale from Managua, Nicaragua, when permission to land in Grand Cayman was requested. The aircraft departed Grand Cayman at 10:34 pm.
